Our Beliefs

As Christians we believe that there is one God. We believe that God took human form as Jesus Christ and that God is present today through the work of the Holy Spirit and evident in our actions.

We believe in the Trinity - God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Some confuse this and think that Christians believe in three separate gods, which we don't.

God and the Holy Spirit were present at the beginning bringing order out of chaos. God was worshipped by the early Jewish religion; the Holy Spirit gave power to the prophets to speak about God. Jesus came and taught about love and peace then God’s Son Jesus Christ sacrificed himself to break the hold of death, he offered forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.

The Methodist Church celebrates 2 sacraments. A sacrament is a way of showing outwardly and visibly what is an inner truth. We believe in the sacrament of One Baptism and practice infant baptisms. We believe in the sacrament of Holy Communion. If you love the Lord Jesus then you are welcome at the Lords table.

We believe in the priesthood of all believers. The Methodist church is a Lay led church, where the ministry of the church is not just for a particular order or class of person. In its corporate life and worship special qualifications to undertake special duties are required.

All those who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and accept the obligation to serve God in the life of the church and the world are welcomed as members of the Methodist church.

Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian. The presence of the Holy Spirit in your life directs your words and actions, so that through your daily living your Christian beliefs are reflected.

As Christians we become aware of the wrong things we have done and said in our lives, when we offer them to God we receive God’s forgiveness and sense of freedom from guilt or past hurts. Then can we choose to change the way we live by following Jesus’ example. Jesus teaches us to love one another and treat other people, as we want to be treated ourselves. In the New Testament of the Bible we can read about Jesus’ life and teachings and how the first Christians told others about their beliefs, laying the foundations for the growth of the Christian Church.
