Some other charities we support...
The Huddersfield East Methodist Circuit adopts a charity each year which all the Circuit churches
support. This year the Circuit charity is Caring For Life.
Caring For Life is founded on very clear Christian
beliefs. Its aim is sharing the love of Jesus with homeless or vulnerable
people by providing accommodation, ongoing support and friendship,
enabling people to develop a sense of dignity and self respect.

Methodist Homes
Methodist Homes has been linked with the Methodist Church since
it was founded by Conference on the inspiration of Revd Walter Hall
in 1943. The work has changed considerably over the years, but the
philosophy of caring for each older person as a unique individual
has never altered. Today nearly 4000 people are cared for in residential
and nursing care, day care, dementia care, sheltered housing and
community support. More information can be found at www.mha.org.uk
Some of the past projects supported by Almondbury Methodist Church include:
Music for the Deaf
This charity aims to help people of all ages and degrees of hearing
loss to have access to music and related performance arts. The money
raised will help to purchase instruments and organise workshops;
and explore other ways of bringing music to people with a hearing
disability. The charity is based in Huddersfield. More information
can be found at www.matd.org.uk
The Koala Club
This charity was setup especially to give support to children who
have recently been bereaved. Based at Kirkwood Hospice, the Club
provides both one to one support through trained Councillors, and
group work in a club setting where these young people can meet and
do things together. The Club currently has plans to setup a room
at the Hospice which will be specially equipped for their use, and
the money we have raised for them will be used for this, for the
purchase of memory boxes, used to remind the children of the loved
one they have lost. This project is Kirklees wide.
Hope and Homes for Children
Mark Cook, a Commander or the British Forces in Bosnia at the time
of the recent conflict, was greatly disturbed at the plight of the
children and their suffering as a result of the war. After finishing
his period of service with the Army, he established a charity which
he called Hope and Homes for Children. This has proved to be both
successful and creative, as it provides small homes and family units
for orphaned children in Bosnia and Serbia and, by now, in many
other places too. More information can be found at www.hopeandhomes.org
